Her first step in the movie business was one of the leading roles in the TV series Dawson's Creek from 1997 – 2003. Other movies, that made her famous, were Teaching Mrs. Tingle, Wonder Boys, The Gift, Abandon, First Daughter, Batman Begins, Thank You for Smoking, Mad Money, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Jack and Jill, Days and Nights, The Giver, The Woman in Gold and Underdogs. Also she had a short guest appperance in the TV series How I Met Your Mother. In 2005, TV Guide ranked Holmes No. 38 on its 50 Sexiest Stars of All Time list.
